Ocular Hypertension

Ocular hypertension is when the pressure inside your eye is higher than normal. This can lead to glaucoma, an eye disease that causes vision loss. Ocular hypertension does not have any signs or symptoms, so it is important to see your ophthalmologist regularly.

If your eye pressure is high enough to risk optic nerve damage, you will need treatment to lower the pressure. Eye drop medicine is often used to lower eye pressure. If ocular hypertension is not carefully monitored (with treatment when necessary) it can lead to glaucoma and vision loss.
