Learning disabilities are problems with reading, writing, doing math, listening, speaking or concentrating. Learning disabilities are not caused by eye problems. Instead, a learning disability is caused by problems with how the brain processes what it sees or hears.
Children may first show learning disability signs when they are in school. They may have trouble learning to read, or they do not enjoy reading. Or they may have trouble with math, or difficulty putting information in order properly. Schools can test children for learning disabilities.
Only trained educators and reading specialists can help people with learning disabilities. Special diets, vitamins, eye exercises, glasses or vision therapy are not proven to help treat learning disabilities.
